Udaipur Solar Observatory
Udaipur Solar Observatory is considered as the best solar observation site in Asia. Located on an island in Fateh Sagar Lake, Solar Observatory of Udaipur is one of the few in the world sitting on an island. This observatory was designed according to the model of Solar Observatory in Big Bear Lake in southern California. In 1975, under the Observatory Trust of Ahmedabad, Dr. Udaipur Solar Observatory was established by Arvind Bhatnagar. The organization is basically reputed in astrological activities. However, the Observatory desires to do research in modern science.
Udaipur Solar Observatory has become an ideal center for developing solar physics in India. Due to being surrounded by water, the island provides a favorable atmosphere for solar observations. Since wind turbulence is less on the island, sharp images of the land, the sun can be obtained. Apart from this, the other benefit of this Observatory is that it is located in Rajasthan, which observes the most cloudy days. All these factors add to the quality of the extracted images of the sun.
The Observatory includes a series of binoculars that provide excellent quality of solar observations. The Observatory is adding a new tool named ‘Solar vector magnetograph’ in its storehouse. This tool will play an important role in future research programs by determining the magnetic field of active areas. Has been more than twenty-five years, because the USO was founded. Observatory has seen a complete solar cycle in twenty years of its subsistence. Now, it is looking at the next solar cycle.
The vast longitudinal difference between Australia and Spain is plugged by the US. Udaipur offers a connection to regular solar coverage in many international affiliate programs including Solar Observatory, Gong (Global Oscillation Network Group). Since 1981, the Observatory is under the control of the Physical Research Laboratory (Ahmedabad) for the Department of the Indian Government.
Under the Gong project, the USO was counted among the world’s six observatories, which look at Sun 24 hours. The National Science Foundation of the United States, which intends to study the oscillations in the solar atmosphere, has sponsored this project of Gong. Therefore, USO is the site of national and international importance. If you are planning to visit this observatory, you will have to take a boat ride to reach the observatory.
