Karni Mata Temple Bikaner
Karni Mata Mandir or “Temple of the Rats” is a very famous temple located in Deshnoke, 30 km from Bikaner in Rajasthan, India.
This temple is famous for 20,000 black mice all over India who live in the temple and are revered. These rats are considered sacred and they are called “kebab”. Many people go far away from this temple only for the honor of these rats and receive their desires as reality. This temple owns the presence of these “rats” in a large number of tourists and eager tourists from all over India.
The temple built in Mughal style is a beautiful marble mask in which there are solid silver doors built by Maharaja Ganga Singh. Across the doorway, there are many more silver doors, in which there are panels that represent various legends of the Goddess. The temple of Goddess has been kept in the inner sanctum. The temple was decorated and beautified by the jeweler of Hyderabad, Kundanlal Verma in the year 1999. Marble carvings and silver mice have also been donated to the temple by them.
According to local folklore, once an army of 20,000 soldiers had become desolate in the nearby battle and came to the ongoing Desanok village. When the mother came to know about the sins of the desert punished by death, then she changed her life into rats. The soldiers also expressed gratitude in return and promised to serve the Goddess forever. Some of the black mice can find white rats, who are believed to be themselves Karani Mata and her four sons.
Other legend says, that once Karni Mata’s stepson Laxman drowned in a pond which was in Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil while drinking water. Mother prayed to the god Yama of death to end her life, for which Yama first refused and later trusted, and allowed rebirth to be reborn as Laksman and all the children of Mother.
HISTORY OF THE ATTRACTION
Construction of the temple was completed at the beginning of the 20th century. The temple is very famous for mythology and folklore. The temple is also considered as the place of high faith, where people come to seek Goddess blessings. It is also believed that if someone has killed a rat, then it should be replaced with a silver rat.
It is not difficult at all to reach the temple as the city is very well connected with all types of transport. Bus, train, and taxi are easily available and the road leading to the temple is quite comfortable and accessible.

OPENING/CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS
The temple opens every morning at 4:00 p.m. Pooja and Aarti are also performed at that time in which many devotees participate. The temple stops at 10:00 in the night.
No entry fee is required to enter the temple.
